Is the Walk in-person or virtual?

The Walk for Childhood Cancer Research will be a virtual experience in 2022. This makes it possible for anybody, anywhere, to join us in the fight against childhood cancer. It also allows our dedicated participants to walk and support the cause on their own schedule.

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM), participants are invited to track their steps throughout the month of September on the MoveSpring app. The app will track your team’s progress along a map, unlocking exciting bonuses, research updates and offers from our event partners. The farther you walk, the more you’ll unlock!

Participants are invited to ask their friends and family to support their commitment to the challenge by donating to support childhood cancer research.

Why is fundraising important?
1 in 7 children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive. Survival rates differ for different types of childhood cancers – but overall, childhood cancer remains the most common cause of death by disease among children in the U.S.

Funding for childhood cancer research, however, pales in comparison to funding available for adult cancers. In fact, as a percentage of cancer research funding from the federal government, childhood cancer research funding is in the single digits. Over half of all funds dedicated to childhood cancer research are from donors like you. Without your support, vital childhood cancer research would not move forward.

At CCRF, we aren’t afraid to aim our efforts at the most hard-to-treat cancers, brining attention and funding to rare and deadly cancers that are often overlooked

CCRF is leading efforts to address disparities in children’s cancer – both in research and care. CCRF’s new grant program, the Eliminating Disparities in Childhood Cancer Award, is one of the only grant programs specifically focused on supporting research and interventions that improve outcomes for children at risk for poor outcomes because of their race, ethnicity, and/or socioeconomic status.

Who is Children’s Cancer Research Fund?

Children's Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) supports the brightest scientists whose ideas make the greatest impact for children with cancer. We also support vital family services and advocate for childhood cancer education and awareness. Since 1981, CCRF has given over $213 million to research, education and patient and family services.

Where do the donations go?

We provide research funding to the nation’s leading childhood cancer hospitals and research centers. With funding, we empower researchers to pursue bold ideas that lead to innovative treatments and that attract additional funding. Every donation to Children’s Cancer Research Fund helps researchers generate even more from the federal government and other funding sources. Children’s Cancer Research Fund accelerates discoveries by providing a steady stream of unrestricted funding, critical in an environment where the incidence of childhood cancer is increasing, and national funding is decreasing. More than half of all pediatric cancer research funding comes from foundations like CCRF. Our funding jump starts new ideas and propels research forward.

In our January 1 to December 31, 2021 fiscal year, 83.2 percent of donations went toward our mission to fund research, education & awareness and quality-of-life programs for childhood cancer patients.
